Back Forty

2005

"It exhibits a chocolaty, black currant nose with some hints of roasted coffee, earth, spice, and barrique. The wine shows medium to full body, loads of fruit, good ripeness, and an almost Bordeaux-like structure..."

Robert Parker, Jr.
The Wine Advocate, 91 Points

The Wine

Afffectionately called Back Forty, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine are grown on low-yielding vines on a 40 acre block, 1,100 elevation, on the back side of Ferrari-Carano's RockRise Mountain in Alexander Valley. Vibrant boysenberry, cassis and caramel aromas blend with pure and harmonious layers of blackberry, currant and ripe black cherry flavors on the palate, while nuances of dark chocolate and espresso roast give way to creamy oak flavors and texture. The soft, dense and refined tannins set apart this expansive wine of extraordinary elegance.
